Albert Hackworth was born on 21 July 1853. He was the son of John Wesley Hackworth and Ann Hackworth (nee Turner). He married Esther Ann Williams on 1 March 1885 and they had one son (also called Albert) and three daughters. He appears to have worked alongside his father as some of John Wesley Hackworth’s patents feature his name, he was also a marine engineer in his own right. He died in 1904.

Esther Ann Williams was born in 1862. She married Albert Hackworth on 1 March 1885 and they had one son (also called Albert) and three daughters. She died in 1917.

Incomplete letter, possibly two separate letters. Encloses cuttings (not present), discusses his correspondence in newspapers, numbers in the margin may refer to the newspaper clippings that he encloses; describes events surrounding the beginning of the locomotive; appears to be involving Albert in gaining recognition for Timothy Hackworth. Found in envelope marked 'J.W. Hackworth letter re early S&DR engines & blast pipe to son Albert 1885' written in John Wesley Hackworth’s hand. (8 sides)
