Charles Clement Vyle worked in the Engineering section in Post Office Telegraphs. He invented or helped to develop various items of telegraphic equipment. One of the most important of these was his polarised sounder which was more sensitive than conventional sounders and could therefore work over longer distances. He also invented (with E V Smart) a duplex telegraph system.
