    20 printing out paper prints, card mounted, featuring newly completed industrial locomotives at Neilson & Company’s Glasgow works, about 1865 to 1888. Locomotives are painted 'works grey' and posed broadside on against a blank background. The photographs feature engines built for British companies, and for export to Italy, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, the West Indies, Philippines, India, Egypt, Tasmania and South Africa. Prints are 15 x 10 ins (380 x 255mm) and mounts 16½ x 11¾ ins (410 x 275mm).

    The condition of the prints is fair, some of the mounts are becoming detached.
  • Archival history
    The photographs were deposited on loan to the Science Museum in 1890 by Neilson & Co. They were transferred to the National Railway Museum from the Science Museum.
