The Electricity Council Biography Biography
In 1957, the government reorganised the electricity supply industry. The Electricity Act of that year replaced the Central Electricity Authority with two new statutory bodies: the Electricity Council and the Central Electricity Generating Board. The government's aim was to decentralise the industry. The Electricity Council brought together representatives of the Central Electricity Generating Board, the Area Boards and its own officers to formulate the general policy of the supply industry in England and Wales. The Council reported to the Secretary of State for Energy. Although the Electricity Council was the central umbrella authority of the industry, it did not have statutory powers. The Council was formally wound up by The Electricity Council (Dissolution) Order 2001.

Scope and Content
Bundle of Electricity Council documents used by Leslie Cedric Parker in the course of his work. The documents consist of a report on High Capacity Storage Radiators, an extract from minutes of a conference concerning storage radiators, a memo on 8 hour storage radiators by W.G. Chilvers and relating to the same Chief Commercial Officers' Conference, and a copy of an article on "Electric heating in domestic and commercial buildings" from an IEE/ IHVE conference. There is also a copy of a draft letter to a Mr Jackson regarding storage heating in Europe. The bundle was found inserted in the pages of an Electricity Council publication, archive reference YA2013.16/3.
