Chillingworth, John Biography Biography
John Chillingworth was born in London on 18th January 1928 and served as an Army photographer during the Second World War. He worked for 'Picture Post’ from 1949-1956, producing over 400 photo-essays for the magazine. The Getty Images' Hulton Archive holds four hundred picture essays from his days with Picture Post, which used narrative photography to inform, entertain and influence the conscience of its readers. After 1956, Chillingworth concentrated on journalism and continued to take photographs on a freelance basis. He ran his own management consultancy from the 1970s. He was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and passed away on 6th April 2025, aged 97 years.

Scope and Content
Contact sheets and photographic prints taken by John Chillingworth for an issue of INGOT magazine. These items were packaged together and labelled 'Steelworks' but the name of the works is unknown. This series contains nine contact sheets and twelve photographic prints. One of the prints has a yellow INGOT job sticker which suggests it was published but the date or issue of the magazine is unknown. One of the prints was published in the Mild Steel catalogue and ten of the prints were not published
