Goodman, Leonard Landon Biography Biography
Leonard Landon Goodman was born in Manchester in 1917. He studied at Repton School, Derbyshire and during the Second World War served with the Royal Signals Regiment. After the war he attended the Royal Technical College, Salford from 1944 to 1947 and then went on to gain a 1st Class Honours degree in Engineering from the University of London. He worked for Ferranti Ltd before going to work for the Electricity Council. He became an authority on automation in the workplace, publishing several books on the subject.

Two folders containing marked coursework on Thermodynamics and Structures, produced by Leonard Landon Goodman as part of his studies towards a BSc (Eng) at the Royal Technical College, Salford.

Physical description
Good condition. The covers of the notebooks have some wear to them with small tears around the edges. The metal parts of the fastenings are corroding and have stained the first page of the notebooks where the corroding metal has been in contact with the paper. The pages inside the book are in a very good condition and the text and drawings are fully legible. Note that the ink from the handwritten notes and drawings are vulnerable to light damage if on display.

Both the course work and published material were created and kept by Leonard Landon-Goodman. After his death in 2007, his wife looked after the collection.

Salford Royal Technical Institute and Royal Technical College Biography Biography
The Royal Technical Institute, Salford, opened in 1896 as the result of the merger of the Pendleton Mechanics Institute and the Salford Working Men's College. The name of the institute changed in 1921 to the Royal Technical College, Salford. It continued to operate under this name until 1959, when it split into two organisations: The Royal College of Advanced Technology and Peel Park Technical College. The institute is a precursor of the University of Salford.
