The National Farmers' Union has a primary purpose to champion British agriculture and campaign towards a stable and sustainable future for British farmers with an aim to secure the best possible deals in selling produce. The NFU offers insurance, advice and support to farmers around England and Wales through regional offices and are actively involved in educating young people about food and farming. The NFU were deeply involved with the debates surrounding GM crops and biotechnology and believes that British farmers should have the choice to benefit from biotechnology as it could be a critical solution to some of the production challenges farmers face.

(active 1996) Chief Science and Regulatory Affairs Adviser Dr Ferrier is the chief scientific advisor for the National Farmers Union, she world with policies, farmers and organisations across the UK to give advice regarding agricultural issues and the policy issues that arise with biotechnology and genetically modified organisms. Ferrier studied for her MSC and PHD in science and environmental technology at Imperial College London before becoming a research assistant there until 2004. After this she gained an advisory position at National Farmers Union and has worked her way up to head of her team, also serving a short contract as acting head of policy services for the union.
