Captain George Gibson Mallory was a native of Scarborough, Yorkshire, and went to sea in 1915, later serving in the cable ships of the Eastern Telegraph Co. He joined the Harwich fleet in 1926 and served an all the services operated by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and British Railways (BR). He was the Captain of the London & North Eastern Railway Steamship Malines, between the 10th May and 14th June 1940.
Scope and Content
The letter explains his reasons for not returning to Dunkirk when he was ordered to do so.
