  • Scope and Content
    This archive is comprised of three albums containing black and white postcard portraits and portraits of film stars and film stills from 1930s America, mainly taken by the Picturegoers Gallery. There are also portrait postcards of the British royal family including King George V and Queen Mary. Some of these are hand coloured. Two of the albums are professionally compiled "Picturegoers" albums which contain portraits and film stills relating to films such as "Her Big Night", "Cheating Cheaters", "Behind that Curtain" and "the Last Frontier" and of actors including May McAvoy, Douglas Fairbanks, Greta Garbo, Jack Buchanan and Norma Shearer among others. The third album contains the postcard portraits of film stars including Betty Balfour, Clark Gabel and Rin-Tin-Tin the dog as well as portrait postcards of the British royal family.
