    The diary includes an account of the opening day of the Weardale Railway to Crook on 8th November 1843 (p.18), a proposal for a plan at a Director's meeting on the 8th December 1843 for the trimmers cabins at Middlesbrough (p.62), a special train on the Great Western Railway on 6th August 1843 went from Slough to Paddington for Queen Victoria safely delivered of a prince (p.354-5), management decisions relating to the Stockton & Darlington Railway, and the non-railway activities of the author, especially relating to Quaker meetings and his work for a local building society in County Durham.
