Wilson, Michael (active 1983) Microbiologist
Professor of Microbiology in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University College London, and Head of the Department of Microbiology at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London. Wilson was the
editor of the Journal of Horticultural Science & Biotechnology until the end of 2015. His main research interests include bacterial virulence factors, biofilms, antibiotic resistance and the development of new antimicrobial strategies.
Wilson has applied for a total of 13 patents for inventions of light-activated antimicrobial agents and water purification and in 1990 he received the National Westminster/British Petroleum Innovation Award and again in 1991 the Toshiba "Invention of the Year" Award for inventing a low-technology method of sterilising water for use in developing countries.
Professor Wilson was awarded a DSc degree in 1999 by the National University of Ireland and in 2011 was appointed Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Minister of National Education both in recognition of his research achievements.
