Planned Music Limited Biography Biography
Planned Music Limited was established in March 1959 by Associated Television Limited as the British franchise owner of the Muzak System. It would begin operating in September 1959 using a distribution licence issued by the General Post Office (GPO). Initially, this was only available in London but it was later expanded into the Midlands and North West. Despite the initial success it suffered from higher-than-anticipated expenditure and delays in receiving GPO approval. It would eventually enter liquidation in 1998 and was dissolved in June 2001.

Scope and Content
This collection contains publicity and information material produced by Planned Music Limited as part of its attempt to promote Muzak in Britain between 1959 and 1961. It is made up of brochures and reprints from publications illustrating the science behind Muzak and its claimed improvements to productivity. Also included are the minutes of a meeting between the company and the Post Office in relation to the expansion of their services into the Midlands.

General Post Office Biography Biography
The General Post Office was established in England in 1660 by Charles II. It grew to cover telecommunications as well as the postal system. The GPO was abolished in 1969 and the assets were transferred to The Post Office, changing it from a Department of State to a statutory corporation.
