Notebook and associated letters and certificates acquired during training to obtain the Post Master General's special certificate to become a wireless operator in the wartime Merchant Navy. Contents include: - Illustrated notebook with the title 'Practical notes on service advise'. Contains notes regarding equipment, 'maintenance of accumulators', testing, radio telegraphy etc, drawings (of quench gap transmitter, charging boards etc) and two Marconigrams dated September 1945 - Letter from the Air Service Training Ltd (school of Marine Radio & Radar), Hamble, Southampton addressed to Mills, bearing the results of his examinations following a radar course. Dated 23 February 1953 - Certificate from the Ministry of Transport, certifying Mills has passed examination in the Maintenance of Radar Equipment on Merchant Ships. Dated 6 October 1964 - Certificate from the Inspector of Wireless Telegraph, G.P.O., stating Mills has competence in radiotelegraphy. Also bears a photograph of Mills. , dated 11 May 1961.
