Board of Trade, Standards Department Biography Biography
The Standards Department was a department of the English Board of Trade, with responsibility for the imperial standards of weights and measures. The department was established by the Standards of Weights, Measures and Coinage Act 1866. After undergoing numerous iterations following government reorganisation over the years, the former responsibilities of the department now sit within the Office for Product Safety & Standards.

Comprise: /1 Certificates of Verification 3 (containing counterparts of nos. 414-512, 1907 Aug to 1912 Jan, signed by Dep. Warden of the Standards); /2 Certificates of Verification 5 (containing counterparts of nos. 604-707, 1915 Nov to 1922 Apr, signed as above; /3 and /4 Registers of Applications under no.21 of the Weights & Measures regulations 1907, 1907 Oct to 1964; /5 Weights & Measures Inspectors Office Equipment (detailing local authorities and districts, their staff and the location of their offices, and local standards, working standards, scalebeams and balances etc.
