  • Scope and Content
    This series contains records appear to originate from the Drawing Office at Wolverton Works. The sub fonds comprises mostly of drawings, these show components and parts of vehicles including and equipment, including crockery, furniture, as well as sometimes including drawings of buildings, plans. In some cases the Drawing Office produced reproductions of letters, circulars, schedules and charts. The archive also includes other important records used for design purposes, for example photograph albums (WOLV 3/7) and order for new stock/specification files (WOLV 3/9). The sub fonds contains almost a full set of drawing registers from 1886 until the 1980’s, these record drawings produced at Wolverton including drawings that have not been preserved. The sub series also contains records that describe drawing procedure, for example Drawing Office project files (1938-1986) (WOLV 3/11) including files that describe the transfer of drawings to other locations. The archive has therefore been arranged into 15 series shown in the list below, these reflect either the activities to which the records relate or the nature of the record. Drawings follow have a distinct system of arrangement which is described in detail in the early locomotive and main series drawing descriptions under ‘system of arrangement’.
