Oxford Archaeology North Biography Biography
Established as the Cumbria and Lancashire Archaeological Unit in 1979, the organisation became known as the Lancaster University Archaeological Unit in 1986. The Unit joined the company and charity Oxford Archaeology Limited in 2001, whereupon it adopted the name Oxford Archaeology North. Oxford Archaeology North has expertise in industrial archaeology.

Scope and Content
One box of papers relating to site evaluation, excavation and report which was carried out in 2004, on what is now known as Piccadilly Place. Originally the area had been known as Shepley Street which included Shepley Street Mill, the first in Manchester to be powered solely by a steam engine.

Archival history
This archive was created by Oxford Archaeology North in the course of their work on the 'Piccadilly triangle' site in central Manchester. They donated these records to the museum in 2007.
