- Archival historyProvenance unknown. Correspondence with Dr Philip Sykas of Manchester Metropolitan University suggests that the sample book was made up by Finlay, Hodgson & Co, a London based wholesaler with a warehouse in Liverpool. The fabric samples compiled in the book were destined for Ritchie, Steuart & Co of Mumbai (Bombay). It is thought that the volume became part of the Calico Printers' Association design archive, which was sold at auction in 1968.
