  • Scope and Content
The Avro Shackleton was a British long-range maritime patrol aircraft developed by Avro and used by the Royal Air Force. It was used primarily in the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) areas, and was later adapted for airborne early warning (AEW), search and rescue (SAR) and other roles from until it was decommissioned in 1990. Named after the polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, it was designed by Roy Chadwick as a model of the Avro Type 696. This collection contains Shackleton related publications, books and manuals from 1963-1991.
