The Holt Town Rubber Co Biography Biography
The Holt Town Rubber Co. was established by former bookmaker William Openshaw in 1894 or 1895. In 1895 the business suffered heavy losses due to a fire. Openshaw's business was financed in part by Messrs Smith and Forrest, who are listed as creditors in bankruptcy procedings in June 1896. However, the Holt Town Rubber Co appears to have continued to operate and Openshaw satisfied the Manchester Crown Court that his bankruptcy should be discharged in 1898. The Holt Town Rubber Co. was incorporated in 1911 under the Company number 114471 as a limited company. It is last documented in 1926 in classified advertisements in local newspapers, and was dissolved by 1932 at the latest.

Scope and Content
Booklet produced by the company showing the various stages in the process of making or recovering rubber and substitute rubber. The booklet describes the company as 'Manufacturers of light and dark substitute, pongo and recovered rubber, waste rubber dealers, finest prepared lime and pigments for india rubber purposes.'
