G W Bacon & Company was a publishing house established in London in 1870 by the American George Washington Bacon. Bacon was a mapmaker as well as publisher, who built his business selling maps of London, atlases and cabinet card photographs. In 1893 Bacon expanded the company, acquiring another map publisher, J Wyld. Around 1900 G W Bacon and Co became part of the Scottish publishing house of W & A K Johnston. Board of Trade records indicate that the company was wound up by 1932, although the Bacon brand continued to be used until at least 1956.
