Anthony Ryan Carter, better known as Tosh Ryan, was one of the founders of Rabid Records in Withington, Manchester. Ryan also helped to establish the first Fly Posting business outside London, along with Martin Hannett.
Scope and Content
The poster is printed in black on a green ground and lists the performers at The Factory at the Russell Club, Royce Road, Hulme on Saturday 2 December. The poster also bears a stamp applied by a member of a rival Manchester band, Slaughter & The Dogs.

Archival history
The Russell Club was the first home of The Factory and the venue for gigs by A Certain Ratio, Joy Division, The Durutti Column, as well as JCC and The Fall, among others. The club was demolished and a block of town houses now stands on the site.

John Cooper Clarke was born in Salford in 1949. He came to prominence in the late 1970s as part of the punk scene, and released several albums of 'punk poetry' at the time on the Rabid Records label. He appeared on the bill with famous musicians, including Joy Division, The Fall, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Buzzcocks, and New Order, amongst many others.
In July 2013, Clarke was awarded an honorary doctorate of arts in "acknowledgement of a career which has spanned five decades, bringing poetry to non-traditional audiences and influencing musicians and comedians" by the University of Salford.
Clarke continues to write and perform. In 2018 his book The Luckiest Guy Alive was published by Picador/ Macmillan. He is often cited as an influence on contemporary musicians, including the band Arctic Monkeys.

The Fall was a British post-punk band formed in Prestwich, Manchester in 1976. Famously, they underwent many changes of line-up, with singer/ songwriter Mark E Smith as the only constant. Musically, the band's sound also evolved, spanning a number of styles, starting with punk. The Fall's abrasive sound never endeared them to mainstream audiences, but they have a strong cult following.
The Fall are known for being prolific, producing 32 studio albums between 1979 and 2017. Many more compilation and live albums were also released.
Mark E Smith died in January, 2018, ending The Fall's career.
