Walter Warrington was born in 1934 and attended Salford Technical College as a student. He joined the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) as a craft apprentice in 1950. He worked at various power generating stations in Manchester, notably Barton and Kearsley, and was Charge Engineer at Stuart Street Power Station, Manchester, until its closure in 1975.
From 1975, Warringtonworked at Ince ‘B’ Power Station at Elton, Cheshire, as Safety and Training Engineer. He took early retirement in 1990, following the privatisation of the electricity supply industry.
On retiring, Warrington became a safety consultant, working within the construction and manufacturing industries.
Scope and Content
Collection consisting of documents and printed publications relating to the generation of electrical power in the North West of England, the history of electrical engineering and power geneneration in the UK, and the history of Salford and Manchester.
