James Keith started his business in Arbroath in 1868. He developed heating, ventilation and hydraulic power systems.

Company formed after the merger of Mont Engineering and Keith Blackman Gas Engineers in 1974. The company specialised in manufacturing gas equipment for the food processing industry as well as other commercial business sectors. In 1985 an additional acquisition created the company which was known as Mont Selas Ltd.

The daughter of Mr Parrott married Richard England and James Parrott transferred ownership to his son in law after which the name of the company was changed to Richard England (Salford) Ltd.
Prior to Richard England (Salford) Limited occupying the premises at Brown Street in Salford, the previous company James Parrott, Engineer, Salford had manufactured hydraulic presses on the site. James Parrott manufactured presses which were used during the process of manufacturing calender bowls for the textile industry.

The engineering firm James Parrott of Salford was established by James Parrott in 1845. The company had premises on Brown Street in Salford and manufactured hydraulic pumps and presses used in the manufacturing of calender bowls used to emboss patterns on wallpaper and other paper products, and used in the textile industry.
In 1855, James Parrott took over the operation of the engineers and hydraulic press makers Norbury and Maguire of Booth Street, Salford. Two years later, the company made the hydraulic pump currently on display at the Science and Industry Museum.
In 1868, James Parrott was granted a patent, alongside Wright Jones, for improvements in machinery for beetling woven fabrics and other materials.
In 1891, the owner of the company, James Parrott, retired from the business, moving to Blackpool. He gave the business to his nephew, Richard England after which it became known as Richard England (Salford) Ltd.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of literature and photographs of gas equipment used commercially for bakery, catering industry, laundry, heating and early arc light use. The hydraulic equipment focuses on presses used during the making of callender bowls for the textile industry, with some mention of embossed paper.
