Barlow and Jones Limited Biography Biography
Company established to spin cotton in 1874, it was re-registered in 1900 taking over the original company to develop and expand its core business to include the selling of textiles and finished goods. Barlow and Jones Ltd acquired The Manufacturers Agency Ltd which had offices in Australia, the name of the company was changed to Barlow and Jones (Australia) Limited by special resolution in 1916. Barlow and Jones were themselves acquired by John Myres a mail order company in 1957.

Manchester Statistical Society was founded in 1833 in response to concerns among a group of residents in Manchester about the impact of ubranisation and industrialisation on society. Its members carried out research with the intention of influencing government policy. Manchester Statistical Society is one of the oldest statistical societies in the world. It continues to meet to discuss social and economic issues.
