Calcott, Wellins (bap. 1726), religious writer and freemason, was a native of Shropshire and was baptized at St Chad's, Shrewsbury, on 27 January 1726, the son of Matthew Calcott, a member of the town corporation. All that is known of Calcott's life is taken from his Collection of Thoughts, Moral and Divine (1756), which suggests that he was prompted to write by a reversal of fortune. His Collection was reprinted several times; it appends a long list of subscribers, who included John Wilkes MP.

This volume, printed for the author by Jos[eph] Harrop, by Wellins Calcott, a religious writer and freemason, is an early example of printing in Manchester.
