1863-?, ironmongers and plumbers merchants, Manchester, England. Founded in Salford in 1863 by Laban Baxendale and his future brother-in-law, Alfred Innes. In 1892, the company moved to Shudehill Mill (commonly known as Arkwright's Mill) in Miller Street, Manchester. The mill was later destroyed in the 1940 Manchester Blitz. A listing in 'Whitaker's Red Book of Commerce or Who's Who in Business' published in 1914 identifies Baxendale's as being 'Lead manufacturers, brass founders, furniture manufacturers, electrical manufacturers, glass bevellers and silverers, embossers and lead light workers, sanitary, gas, water, steam and electric fittings, hardware merchants, oil and paint warehousemen, plumbers', decorators' and builders' merchants etc.' At the time, the firm had 1,250 employees.

The Carborundum Company was the British subsidiary of the American company Carborundum. The British company set up a works in Trafford Park around the beginning of the 20th century. It exhibited a variety of abrasive and sharpening tools at the Olympia Machinery Exhibition in 1907. The company continued to manufacture and trade from the site until around 2013 when it was closed down, as a result of continued losses.

Richard Johnson, Clapham and Morris Ltd was formed in around 1872 when the iron merchant William Clapham joined Richard Johnson and Morris as a partner. The company's manufacturing interests included reinforced bricks and the clothing of steel-framed and reinforced concrete buildings, and also manufactured wire netting, paper machine wires and miners' safety lamps. The company initially had premises in Dale Street, Manchester, before moving to Lever Street, Manchester, where the head office and warehouse was located. There were also wire merchants' premises in Stanley Street, Liverpool, and from around 1912, the works was located in Newton Heath, Manchester. The company became a public limited company in 1891. By 1914, the business was listed in directories as general hardware, iron and metal merchants. Manufacturing specialities included galvanized wire netting, wire work, wire drawers, brass foundry, high-tension bronzes, safety lamps for miners, woven wire of all kinds, wire, reinforcements for concrete and bricks, tinplates, sheet iron, galvanized corrugated iron, tinned sheets, sheet zinc, copper, spelter, tin lead, hardware and hollow ware. The company was still in existence in 1961, as metal, electrical and hardware manufacturers and factors employing 560 people.
