Pickering exhibited Between 1815 and 1818 he exhibited eleven landscapes at the Society of Painters in Water Colours (the Old Watercolour Society) between 1815 and 1818, and four landscapes at the Society of British Artists galleries in Suffolk Street, London, in 1827–8.
In 1836 he had a studio at 53 Bold Street, Liverpool. He later moved to Grange Mount, Birkenhead, where he died on 8 March 1857.
