  • Scope and Content
Plate 6 of a series of aquatints of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, titled 'Entrance in Manchester across Water Street'. It was engraved by Henry Pyall, after an image by Thomas Talbot Bury, and was published by R. Ackermann, London, 1831. The Liverpool and Manchester Railway nearly didn’t end in Manchester. The railway company did not have permission to cross the river from Salford into Manchester. They had to strike deals with the railway’s opponents to build the station that is now the site of the Science and Industry Museum.
