- Scope and ContentThe collection consists of a wages sheet from 1882, wages book for 1888-1890, the foundry's first delivery book for Aug-Oct 1886, a letter book for 1900-1905, a photographic print showing F S Cooper on an Ironfounders Association picnic, and three photographs showing a jib crane and handblock in the foundry.

- Archival historyThe donor acquired the collection from a former colleague with whom he worked at ManCat. The former colleague received them from a social worker based in Ancoats who had been given the documents by someone with a family connection to the firm. This initial transfer was made in c.1980. Information about the original owner of the records has been lost over the years, but the current donor is sure that the records were given, and he is offering them as a donation to the museum. F S Cooper Ltd was an iron founders based in Chapeltown Street, Ancoats. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Ardwick and Ancoats areas of the city formed a significant location for iron and steel works, as there were good transport links initially with the canal network and later with rail and road links. F S Cooper Ltd was one of a number of companies in the area, including W & J Galloway & Sons, John Hetherington & Son, Forrest & Sym and Richard Johnson & Nephew.
