Manchester City Council Biography Biography
Manchester was incorporated in 1838 under the Municipal Corporations Act 1835 as the Corporation of Manchester or Manchester Corporation. Under the Local Government Act 1972 the council was reconstituted as a metropolitan borough council in 1974.

Scope and Content
Prospectus issued by the Council in order to commemorate the Jubliee Year of Queen Victoria by promoting an exhibition to run between May and October, 1887. The prospectus contains the names of the organisers and Vice-Presidents along with the Committees; Regulations for the Exhibitors; Plan of the Approaches to the Exhibition; Plan of the Buildings and Grounds; Ground Plan of Old Manchester.
