The South of Scotland Electricity Board (SSEB) generated, transmitted, and distributed electricity throughout the south of Scotland. It was formed in 1955 by the Electricity Reorganisation (Scotland) Act 1954. It combined the already existing two boards into one, the SSBE, because it was thought that would provide advantages such as simplification.
The board was to comprise a chairman and no less than four but no more than eight members.
It was headquartered at Sauchiehall Street and Inverlair Avenue Glasgow.
The Board was dissolved in 1991 as a result of the Electricity Act 1989 which privatised the British electricity industry.
