  • Scope and Content
A Letter on the Subject of the Projected Rail Road, between Liverpool and Manchester, pointing out the Necessity for its Adoption and the manifest Advantages it offers to the Public, with an Exposure of the exorbitant & unjust Charges of the Water Carriers. First edition. Joseph Sandars, Liverpool 1824. This very early pamphlet sets out in detail the considerable public objection to the level of charges for and time taken to transport goods by water between the port of Liverpool and the manufacturing base of Manchester, and the time that would be saved and economies that would be achieved by a railway.
