1917-2013, museum curator, British; Welsh Studied chemistry at Jesus College, Oxford, before serving in the Second World War as a bomb disposal officer. Subsequently taught in Bournemouth and Epsom Grammar School before working at Kodak in Harrow. 1949 - joined the Science Museum as an Assistant Keeper. 1959 - became a Deputy Keeper. 1964 - developed new Chemistry Galleries at the Science Museum. 1966 - published John Dalton and the Atom. 1967-1980 - Keeper of Chemistry at the Science Museum. 1977 - refurbished the Science Museum Chemistry Galleries. 2007 - published his autobiography Chymia Acta.

Papers collected by Dr Frank Greenaway, Secretary General of the meeting's organising body, the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science. Meeting subtitled 'Impact of Scientific Expressions of Time on Differing Cultures'.
