    The collection comprises six series. Series 1 comprises 6 folders and 3 handwritten volumes of material relating to legal and financial matters [1797-1900]; series 2 comprises 4 folders of material relating to employees, brewers and possibly to clients also [1854-1898]; series 3 comprises 3 folders of material relating to the lease and tenancy of properties in Tooley Street, The Strand, Tulse Hill and Dulwich [1870-1913]; series 4 comprises 14 folders of material relating to patents and products, including John Dring’s patent specification for a tap, and correspondence with Inland Revenue and with the Patent Office [1790-1937]; series 5 comprises 9 folders of miscellaneous material including tradecards, photographs, a brief history of the company and an inventory of items donated to the Science Museum in London (1860-c.1930). Series 6 comprises 30 published volumes which have been transferred to the Science Museum Library (c.1790-1945).

  • System of arrangement
    The files were grouped in 6 series, numbered alpha numerically, according to subject areas. Original numbering sequences, where evident, were maintained in the order of the files. Where no such sequences were evident, the order was decided by the archivist.
