  • Scope and Content
The petition requests the election of George Hudson to the Board of Directors of the Eastern Counties Railway, because ‘the present constitution of the Board of Directors is unsatisfactory especially in relation to the non-residence of so large a proportion of its members...’. It invites Hudson ‘most urgently’ to take up office ‘so that the capabilities of the line may be fairly developed, and all just ground of complaint on the part of the public removed’. The address is signed by J. [?] Scott, Chairman of the Committee of Shareholders and goes on to list names of proprietors, place of residence, ‘number of original shares at £25 each now representing £14.16 capital stock’, number of new shares representing, ‘extension stock no 1’, ‘extension stock no 2’. The petition is not dated but presumably originates from 1836-1845.
