E.J. Morris was born on the 27th December 1904 and attended Mitcham Lane School between 1912 and 1918. In 1921 he joined the Pullman Car Company Limited as a messenger boy. In 1927 he was made an accountant to the company after completing a qualification in the subject. Between 1928 and 1935 he was responsible for forming and operating Irish Pullmans Limited, a subsidiary of the Pullman Car Company, as part of his role as accountant. In 1937 he acted as the liquidator for this company. During 1936 he was appointed Assistant Company Secretary and Chief Accountant, becoming Company Secretary and Chief Accountant in 1940. His final role at the company was as General Manager which he held from 1962 until his retirement in 1967, as a result of the company being divided between the British Rail regions.
