- Scope and ContentLeeds Dewsbury & Manchester Railway Morley Contract Volume 1: Daily Journal from December. 18 1846 to Aug[u]st. 14 1847. Account of the construction of the Morley Tunnel on the Leeds Dewsbury & Manchester Railway by the Resident Engineer, Henry Renton. The entries consist of daily lists of work done by the various gangs of workers signed off by Inspectors, also progress summaries, accounts of meetings, notes concerning incidents and disputes etc., and occasional sketches with later entries. The front of the volume contains a list of accidents. The flyleaf bears a label 'Henry Renton March 17th 1834' fixed in with adhesive corners.
- Extent1 volume
- Physical descriptionGood condition, paper with board covers and leather-bound spine. The first page of daily entries for 18 Dec. has at some point become detached, and has been re-attached in the wrong place, before the list of accidents. There is also evidence of newspaper cuttings (seemingly on religious affairs) having been stuck in and later removed, and early pages bear headings such as 'Education,' 'Ruskin' and 'Religious Liberty', suggesting the volume was begun to be re-used as a cuttings book at some point before being rescued.
