Peter Dawson gained a B.Sc. in Engineering from Queen Mary College, London prior to joining Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co Ltd as an apprentice in 1950. From 1950 to 1953 he was both a vacation apprentice and college apprentice. From 1953 he worked in the Research Radio Department and joined the Research Valve Development Department in 1955.
