Cussons specialised in the development and manufacturing of teaching and research equipment for mechanical engineering students. From its beginnings in Manchester, where it is still located, it also developed a range of products for the automotive industry. Further development of the company came after it acquired the rights to products designed by Kempf & Remmers specialists in marine related engineering.
