Conservative MP from 1959-1992 and leader of the Conservative Party from 1975-1990. Thatcher was Secretary of State for Education and Science, 1970-1974 and Leader of the Opposition, 1975-1979. She became UK Prime Minister in 1979 and served until 1990. She was created a Baroness in 1992.
